Social Inclusion Week - Hot Chocolate and Storytelling

This is a video of a recent Storytelling / Hot Chocolate event we did at
school as part of the Galway City Galway County Social Inclusion Week 2017.
This was funded with the kind grant from the City/County Inclusion Office.
The grant allowed us to pay for a bus to welcome the students and teachers
from the local direct provision centre for asylum seekers pre-school to
visit our school, Claddagh National School on October 18, 2017. The
children from the Eglinton Hotel joined the children from our onsite pre
and after school programme run by the wonderful Olivia O'Reilly to enjoy
meeting each other, listening to stories and having hot chocolate!

The children had a fantastic time making new friends and learning some fun
new games together!

Here at Claddagh School, we are aware that both children and adults are increasingly exposed to cyberbullying and disrespectful or hateful language online. As a school committed to encouraging respect and tolerance of our fellow humans - of all abilities and backgrounds - we are now publicly displaying our civic engagement against cyberbullying on our home page by showing the Respect Zone label.

In practice, this also means joining the Respect Zone Charter, which commits us to the following prinicples:

1) WE RESPECT OTHERS.

We publish content (texts, hashtags, photos, sounds, videos, etc.) which recognises the fundamental rights and liberties of other people, whether in  online or offline contexts.

2) WE MODERATE OUR CONTENT AND STATEMENTS.

We take care not to publish or support cyber-violent content (including bullying, racism, antisemitism, homophobia, sexism, discrimination or stigmatism of origin, belief, religion or disability and incitement of hate, violence or terrorism).

3) WE MODERATE CONTENT PLACED BY OTHERS ON OUR WEBSITES/WEBPAGES.

When we identify or are notified of content contrary to this charter, we will as soon as possible, act in an appropriate manner, either by affirmatively disassociating ourselves from that content or removing it.

4) WE HAVE POSTED THE RESPECT ZONE LABEL.

We have posted the Respect Zone label in a visible manner on our homepage, with a link to the Respect Zone Website.

5) WE WILL USE THE RESPECT ZONE LABEL ONLY IN COMPLIANCE WITH THIS CHARTER.

WE recognise that the Respect Zone label is authorised for use only as set out in this charter and we will not use it otherwise.

Proudly leading the Oyster Festival Parade

We are, of course, used to the children of our mighty Claddagh School Band doing us proud, but their performance in Saturday's Oyster Festival Parade was absolutely astounding. Parents, staff and thousands of onlookers were spellbound by the marvellous music, magnificent marching and perfect presentation of these fantastic children.

We thought we couldn't be more proud of them - We were wrong!
